Exchange 2010, Storage and architectural considerations

Synopsis

Level 400

Exchange 2010 is not just about getting a server with some disks and dropping Exchange databases on them.
There is a great deal of information regarding Microsoft Exchange and the amount of I/O that the various versions require. Over-estimation of I/O for older versions and under-estimation of the I/O requirement for the most recent version are at the base of a lot of misunderstanding about what disk type and storage platform makes the most sense to deploy. Over-estimation of I/O will cost your business money. Under-estimation of I/O will cost you credibility and increase user complaints.
This presentation will expose you to some of the things that the server vendors don?t tell you, explain the truth ?behind the disk? and ultimately what benefits you get out of using networked storage for your Exchange 2010 architecture beyond somewhere to store a database.
We will look at some of the factors that go into using Jetstress and, for those customers considering networked storage, why the jetstress utility is largely irrelevant and can actually cause difficulties in properly sizing the storage environment.
By the end of this session you will be able to understand what a networked storage solution really means and be able to make better informed choices when deciding whether to use local or networked storage for your Exchange 2010 deployments.
